The name “Hootie Doot” is a family way of referring to someone, or something, that is way above average - kind of like the “Grand Poo Ba”.
Here’s the story of how The Doot Family of Dressings started, where the founders have been, what they have to offer you now and what new creations are coming.
It was in 1974 that a friend of Teed’s (Mr. Doot), for whom he did a good deed, gave him the recipe for a new dressing for salad with the promise that he would not offer it for sale until the provider of the recipe passed away.
Within the 32 intervening years the promise was kept, while occasionally using the dressing as a gift to friends during the Christmas season.
Your founders, Mary and Teed met in 1996, they married in 1997, and as they were giving Hootie Doot (Doot Dressings) as a Christmas gift to their friends in the years following, Mary started noticing more and more empty containers were left on her desk every week. It seemed that everyone liked Hootie Doot. Mary and Teed started wishing they could give out some more.
In 2006, Mary and Teed discussed making Hootie Doot available to the public. Teed heard about the new Ohio Valley Venture Kitchen being built in Madison, Indiana, and visited an open house for prospective venders who needed a place to make their product. Kitchen Manager Richard Metzoff, took a large group on a tour of the facilities, explaining the facility and venture possibilities as Mary and Teed viewed this “Million Dollar” kitchen, approved by the USDA, that seemed to have everything they needed to get started.
Mary and Teed were impressed by the possibilities; however Mr. Metzoff explained that one product in the food business would not be enough for the market, and that Mary and Teed should begin to develop different varieties. Then the experiments started, finally producing three more varieties – Dilly Doot, Hoosier Doot, Fruitie Doot and La Doot.
While Mary and Teed were working on a new line of dressings, Sherry, their daughter, used her artistic talents to design labels, logos, and the distinctive Bow Ties - identifying each dressing. Sherry’s husband jumped in and helped figure out the mathematical formulas needed to help create each dressing.
Mary and Teed formed an LLC Corporation, and began to produce all five varieties for the public. They first marketed their product only in Nashville, IN, then they expanded to other communities as far south as Paoli and Mitchell Indiana, up-state to Northern Indianapolis, east to Columbus, and special mailings to Washington D.C and Virginia Beach in the East, also Waukegan, IL and Kalamazoo, MI - even Corvallis, Oregon, and Colorado Springs, in the west, and Birmingham, Alabama - Greenwood, Mississippi, in the south.
Mary and Teed have just released a Sixth Doot Dressing: Bella Doot! They have spent the last Three Years Developing Bella Doot. Customers have been enthusiastic about the different ways they have used the dressings themselves for dishes and gatherings, and have returned their personal recipes to Mary and Teed to share with their customers.
